This trick will take a little practice, but is truly spectacular when performed well! One by one, four separate coins invisibly gather together.
Secret: For this trick, you will need five identical coins and the four round Mind Reader Cards. Your audience will only ever see four of the coins and they will not know that you secretly have a fifth coin. When performing, you will need a soft surface like a mat or carpet to work on. This makes it easier to pick up the coins during the routine.
Presentation: To begin, hold the four round cards face-down with one coin secretly hidden underneath. Place the other four coins on the table in a square.
Now place the top round card on the far-left coin. Place the second round card on the near-left coin. Place the next round card on the near-right coin and finally place the last round card (the card with the coin hidden underneath) on top of the far-right coin. Place the last card down gently so that the hidden coin does not make a noise if it touches the coin on the table.
You should now have one coin under every card – except for the near-right card, which secretly has two coins.
To make the first coin travel:
Pick up the far-right card with your right hand between thumb and index finger, secretly pinching the hidden coin between your thumb and the underside of the card.
At the same time, pick up the near-left card with your left hand, so that you can display a single coin under each card. No one will guess that you are secretly hiding a coin under the card in your right hand.
Now lower both cards over the two coins and allow the hidden coin to drop onto the table. At the same time, secretly pinch the left coin under the left-hand card. Lift both cards to show that the near-left coin has apparently jumped to the far-right. At this point, you now have a coin secretly hidden under the card in your left hand.
Discard the card in your right hand and you are ready to perform the next part of the trick.
To make the second coin travel:
With a coin still secretly pinched between your left thumb and the underside of the left card, pick up the near-right card with your right hand to display the coin underneath.
Lower the right-hand card and secretly pinch the near-right coin under it between your right thumb and the underside of the card. At the same time, lower the left-hand card over the two far-right coins and release the hidden coin with the left hand. Lift the cards again. You appear to have made the second coin magically travel!
You now have a coin secretly hidden under the card in your right hand, pinched between your right thumb and the underside of the card. Discard the card in your left hand and you are ready to perform the third part of the trick.
To make the third coin travel:
Cover the three exposed coins with the card in your right hand. Remember that the audience is unaware of the hidden coin pinched between your thumb and the card.
Pick up the far-left card and display the coin underneath. Lower the card and secretly pinch the coin between your thumb and the underside of the card. At the same time, release the hidden coin in your right hand. Lift the cards once more to reveal that the last coin has apparently jumped from the far-left position to join the other coins under the right-hand card!
Practise this routine to make all your movements as smooth as possible, so that you do not fumble when picking up or releasing the coins under the cards. Once you have mastered this trick, you will be able to perform it with any four cards and a handful of coins!
